President Trump coming to Alaska next week to campaign for Republicans

President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally in Wasilla, Alaska, on Tuesday, on the heels of a visit by his vice president, in the GOP's effort to support Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan and Rep. Nick Begich and hold on to majorities in the U.S. House and Senate.

Trump will headline the rally at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center, according to a statement from the Trump 47 Committee, a fundraising group tied to Trump's Save America PAC and the Republican National Committee.

The committee will host the rally.

Trump is expected to speak at 3 p.m. The doors will open at noon, and the event will begin at 2 p.m., according to the statement.

An RSVP will be required to attend the event, the statement said.

Vice President JD Vance on Monday held a campaign rally in Fairbanks to stump for Sullivan and Begich, who face well-funded challengers with the Nov. 3 general election just weeks away.

Sullivan, who is seeking a third term, lost by a large margin to Democrat Mary Peltola, a former House lawmaker, in the August primary.

Begich, who is seeking a second term, faces independent candidate Bill Hill, a fisherman and retired educator from Southwest Alaska, who has support from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the national campaign arm for U.S. House Democrats.

Begich won 44.6% of the vote after the Aug. 18 primary results were certified, beating Hill's 32.5% by a dozen points.

This will be Trump's second campaign rally in Alaska. He traveled to Anchorage in July 2022 to stump for two Republican congressional candidates who ended up losing their respective races. Trump's 2022 rally sought to boost Kelly Tshibaka, a conservative challenger who lost to moderate Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski; and former Gov. Sarah Palin, who lost a special U.S. House race to Peltola.

When Trump traveled to Alaska in 2022, he also voiced support for Gov. Mike Dunleavy, who won reelection later that year. Trump has yet to make an endorsement in this year's open governor's race, in which three Republicans are running against a single Democrat, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins.

All three of Alaska's Republican gubernatorial candidates — businesswoman Bernadette Wilson, former Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson, and former Attorney General Treg Taylor — have expressed support for Trump and his agenda. But when the three traveled to Vance's rally in Fairbanks this week, they were not given an opportunity to appear on stage with the vice president.
