Sir Patrick Stewart welcomed a couple into his home after they were forced to evacuate theirs amid the Los Angeles wildfires.
The X-Men legend and his 47-year-old wife, singer-songwriter Sunny Ozell, let musician Mason Stoops, his wife Brooks, and their dog Apple stay with them as the Eaton Fire impacted Altadena, California, in January last year.
Patrick passed away on Wednesday (28.10.26) following a battle with Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body dementia at the age of 86, and hours after his death was announced on Thursday (29.10.26), Mason reflected on the experience and the Marvel icon's generosity in a sweet Instagram post.
He shared multiple shots of himself, Brooks and Apple enjoying time with Patrick and Sunny, with the caption: "After evacuating the Eaton Fire, Sunny and Patrick took Brooks, Apple, and me into their home without a single hesitation.
"A year that would otherwise have been consumed by grief, confusion, and loneliness was instead filled by their warmth, kindness, and relentless hospitality.
"We became our own chosen family.
"Cocktails and dominoes every evening, followed by arguably the best food Brooks and I (and Apple) have ever had, all made with love by Sunny. Times I know we will remember the rest of our lives."
Mason received invaluable life advice from the Logan alum.
He continued: "Patrick taught me so much: about art, about true dedication to one's craft, and about the belief that your best work//self comes only from championing the people around you.
"Most of all, he showed me how to be a truly loving partner - even in, if not directly in spite of, the most challenging of circumstances."
Patrick and Sunny played an important role in Mason and Brooks' wedding.
He shared: "As more time passed, Patrick never stopped showing up for us - he helped Brooks pick out her dress, and I proudly wore his suit as Sunny so f****** beautifully officiated our wedding."
The couple will forever cherish the time they spent with Patrick and Sunny.
Mason concluded: "We are painfully grateful to have spent what time he had left together, playing his favorite songs, sharing our favorite stories, and holding each other close.
"I loved//love our chosen family, and I am grateful for each and every moment//memory we had together. I just wish there were more.
"We love and miss you so much, Patrick. Thank You."
Sunny commented on Mason's post: "He loved you so so much Mason. Forever grateful for yours and Brooks' friendship and presence."
Patrick's death was announced on Thursday via a statement on his social media accounts.
It read: "We announce with great sorrow the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart yesterday at his home in Los Angeles, in the loving care of his beloved wife Sunny, following a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer's disease and Lewy Body dementia.
"He has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayers, tears, laughter, and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to all of us.
"We will forever cherish the peaceful ease and reflection on his face, an enduring reminder of his invincible grace."
