1 reported dead in plane crash near Space Coast Regional Airport in Florida

Emergency crews responded to a fatal plane crash near the Space Coast Regional Airport in Titusville on Monday.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it was investigating the crash of a Mooney M20F, which is a four-seat, propeller-driven aircraft.

Images on WESH showed the small aircraft in flames on the side of the highway. The TV station reported that the Titusville Fire Department confirmed the crash killed the lone passenger, the pilot who was not identified.

Titusville police and fire were among those on scene of the downed small aircraft on State Road 405 (Columbia Boulevard) between Sisson Road and South Washington Avenue.

“Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Columbia Boulevard are closed while emergency personnel address the incident,” Titusville PD posted to X. “Motorists are encouraged to find alternative routes. Residents and businesses in the area of Sisson Road and Columbia Blvd should expect to have power outages due to that area of the grid being shut off by FPL.”

This is the stretch of highway just north of the airport and west of the NASA Causeway leading over the Indian River to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Valiant Air Command, which operates the Warbird Museum and flies aircraft out of the airport said in a social media post that none of their aircraft, crew members, staff or volunteers were involved.
